1. According to Thomas Friedman's globalization levels (1.0, 2.0, and 3.0), Guyana would be in the 2.0 globalization level, or company-based globalization. This is true because, throughout the years, Guyana has tried to develop independence and efficiency in their economy through endeavors such as turning government companies, like the state-owned bauxite mines, over to international corporations. They have also tried to expand their country through allowing global companies like the IMF and the World Bank to govern policies regarding their natural resources. Guyana has adopted the Foreign Direct Investment Plan from the World Bank in order to try and get themselves out of debt and to keep commerce going with other countries. Guyana has been a country that must adapt to bigger countries and forces for a long time which is why they are still stuck in 2.0 globalization.

2. Human Development Index (HDI) is "a summary measure for assessing long-term progress in three basic dimensions of human development: a long and healthy life, access to knowledge and a decent standard of living" (http://hdr.undp.org/sites/default/files/Country-Profiles/GUY.pdf). Guyana's HDI score for 2013 (the most recent I could find) is .638 which 121st out of 187 countries and territories. This puts Guyana in the medium-developed bracket. From 1980 to 2013, Guyana's HDI score has grown 23.6 percent and is trending for continually increasing. This means that each of the components of the HDI are improving every year so Guyana is slowly getting closer to becoming a developed country. Because of this information, we know that Guyana's HDI score is doing okay. It is continually growing toward development, but compared to others in the same development bracket, such as El Salvador, it it not growing quite as quickly.
